Like the Stewart Mine, world famous for its diverse and unique geology, you find much the same
here at the Oceanview. To see an aerial map of the property click here for an aerial photo from the digforgems.com website. It is also famous for its diversity of minerals including a pure pink
tourmaline (rubellite) , green tourmaline (verdelite), indicolite tourmaline, montmorillonite,
quartz, goshenite,
morganite, kunzite, purpurite, lepidolite, albite, bismuthinite, digenite, zircon, amblygonite,
cookeite, lithiophyllite, triplite, vivianite, spessartite, wardite, apatite, columbite, tantalite,
bismutite,
clevelandite and many other minerals. Of particular note are the bicolor tourmaline specimens
which are overshadowed by the fabulous pink specimens from this mine. Check with the shop as
specimens of pink tourmaline and other pegmatite minerals are available as facet rough and
specimens on occassion.
Located off Highway 76, from Oceanside, Ca. into the Pala Indian area, and up the hill from
Magee Road.
Check in, mandatory release required before access onto mine property.
Parking is easy, and close to where you screen
Ample and pleasant assistance.
Each individual is assigned a work space
Pair of 1/2 and 1/4 inch screens, bucket, and a small shovels.
Blasting within the mine is done on Saturday
Material on the floor from the blast is placed in the pile.
None of this material has previously been gone through.
Preliminary talk is given to all attendees,
How to spread the material, screen it, and what to look for.
Work at your own pace, later in the day, tours into the mine
Persons living outside of the Southern California area,
Right down the road is the Pala Casino Hotel, or check the Web for reasonable places to stay.
$60 fee, includes everything above,
Unlimited Buckets of screening material,
Nice covered picnic area, plenty of ice cold water
BBQ facilities
Wind down about 3 PM,
