Chapter President
Mike Eubank

My name is Mike Eubank. I am the president of the Brea Chapter in California, representing Gold Prospectors of America.  It’s quite a title, but I am also a truck driver.  In 1992, I purchased my first Keene sluice box at a Garage sale.  It came in a kit including buckets, gold pans, classifiers, and a sucker bottle.
I continued to prospect over a ten-year period at East Fork in the San Gabriel canyon of just north of Azusa, California.  I joined GPAA in 2003, and shortly after that became Chapter President of Route 66 Gold Miners.  Now that I am a member of a local chapter and after attending over one hundred outings with many GPAA chapters I have discovered many new friends with similar interests, and I have found over nine ounces of the yellow shinny stuff…(Gold)  Route 66 Gold Miners greatly appreciates the support of the following:
Gold Prospectors of America
Pedersen’s Metal Detectors
Keene Engineering
Anaheim Gem & Mineral Sociaty

Ever since witnessing an ol' prospector pulling a one-ounce nugget out of a bedrock crack only 20 feet from a mountain road. I was forever blessed and stricken with gold fever! It was back then in 1983 I originally joined the GPAA. Since joining this elite bunch of rag tag and well experienced family of weekend miners. In the 80's, I have sluiced, dredged using a Keene 2 1/2" backpacker and panned my way through the enjoyment of prospecting. I have joined with the Route 66 Gold Miners since its infancy back in 2003 becoming its chapter secretary. The camaraderie of our members could only be described up as a passionate, patriotic, and just a bunch of good-natured people living one of America's few remaining freedoms. Where else can you go to enjoy the great outdoors and enjoy the free adventures in search for gold? Since joining I have purchased a dry washer, Vac-Pac, and several detectors. While that elusive one-ounce gold nugget is still in my prospecting sights, I have found ounces of 'processed' gold and silver (modern day jewelry) by way of metal detecting local beaches and parks. I have learned all aspects of gold prospecting. And that's one of the things this chapter offers all newcomers. Our members have become experienced prospectors and willing to hand down this original American pastime (gold prospecting) to all those interested. Most people don't know that California's second gold rush was right here in Southern California! So if you're interested in learning, experiencing and enjoying the adventurous world of prospecting for gold (Sluicing, dredging, crevassing, hi-banking, dry washing and metal detecting). What are you waiting for? But be very careful when finding your first gold nugget. After all there is no cure gold fever! Thank goodness. Happy Hunting!

Ken Osborn has been a member of the Route 66 Gold miners GPAA Chapter for over three years. He has served as chapter treasurer for two years and loves the benefits of belonging to the organization.  His excitement comes through in his words, "This is a very active chapter with great people.  We have fun and educational meetings which often include very experienced and well-respected leaders in the field of prospecting .  We also have great times as we conduct chapter prospecting outings including, The Treasurefest Beach Metal Detecting Hunts, river trips, desert outings, San Gabriel operation clean-up, Gem and Mineral shows etc.  Mike is a terrific President.  He makes sure that we always have fun and interesting things for the members to do and learn.  I would recommend this club to anyone with an interest in prospecting, learning about treasure hunting, or just wanting to have some fun with others who love to enjoy the great outdoors."

In 2003, we were watching Gold Fever on the outdoor channel and decided to join GPAA. After receiving the package from them, we signed up to go on the 2004 Alaskan outing for one week. Wow, what a great time we had, we went back the next year for two weeks. After returning home from the first trip to Alaska, we started attending outings in California and Arizona. And while at Scott Bar, we joined LDMA.   We found the Route 66 Club in our Gold Prospectors Magazine and started going to the meetings held in Brea.  We have learned so much through all the speakers and demonstrations while attending the meetings.  I'll be so glad when the club can buy a claim so that we can all go on outings together like most of the other prospecting clubs.  Needless to say, Jim and I love gold prospecting.
